Another taste of CULTURE SHOCK was experienced when we arrived at the airport in Qatar, a country just east of Saudi Arabia. Although we were only in Qatar for one hour, I knew that we were in another part of the world. The women were dressed from head to toe in black. Many of them had everything covered except for their eyes. The men were dressed in white gowns and white cloths on their heads. Although the mood was very serious, I was very excited to be in this new scenery. When we arrived into Cairo, the dress was very conservative still, however, the mood was more upbeat and the people were very friendly. This continued to be the case throughout our travels in Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Syria and Turkey. Egypt:
