Nha Trang Photos
Up

After a full morning in the Mekong region and a great lunch, we piled in the van once more for the trip north back to Saigon.  With time at a premium, we decided that we would return to Saigon, arriving at roughly 9:30pm, give the driver a short break, and leave towards Nha trang (on the eastern coast) at about 11:30pm, driving through the night.

Sleeping in the van while our tireless driver negotiated the darkened and narrow roads, we awoke at a beach near Pan Thiet, where we spent several hours relaxing before pushing on once more toward Nha Trang.  As it was very early in the morning, we watched as the fisherman came on from the sea in their distinctive bowl shaped wicker boats.

As each of the fishermen would come in from the sea, family and friends would gather around to assist, eager to see what the morning's effort had yielded.

Instead of boats, others fished from the shore with nets.

After our beach break, we headed in the van once more and continued northward.  Here schoolgirls, dressed traditionally, ride their bikes.

Among other things, Vietnam is a land of beautiful green rice fields, often with a backdrop of mountains as appears in this photo.

Once in Nha Trang, the real highlight was the boat ride we took the next day.  An all day affair that took us near 4 islands for drinking, eating, swimming and general revelry, the water was brilliant....perhaps the nicest water we had yet seen on the trip.

This is a picture looking from the boat directly into the water.  Seriously.

At our first stop, Bo takes his turn leaping from the top of our boat into the refreshing turquoise waters of the South China Sea.

Atop our boat, we enjoyed a sumptuous feast of all types of exotic, and tasty, fruits.

Continue with us as we travel north to Hoi An, Vietnam.
