FC Barcelona vs. AC Milan

Since Rich and I stepped foot in South America one year ago, we have been itching to attend a futbol (which is, of course, soccer to those of us stateside) game, and we hoped to experience a game with enthusiastic and devoted fans.  We wanted to see some painted faces and rowdy fans, and we wanted to see some good futbol.

Here are some rowdy German futbol fans.  It is fans like this that got us excited to see a good futbol game.

We were extremely fortunate enough to be in Barcelona for the big F.C. Barcelona vs. AC Milan game.  Both teams are in the European Champions league which is made up of some of the best teams of European futbol.  Securing the tickets was an all day affair, but we managed to get them, buy a team t-shirt and take our seats just in time for the first kick-off.  The large stadium, seating 110,000!, was filled with fans and the echo of their cheers.

The game remained 0-0 for a long time.  Here the Italian player, Enrique, gets an opportunity to kick, as the Futbol Club of Barcelona lines up to block.

Milan scored the first goal and the momentum changed from there,  Barcelona just could not seem to keep up.  Here an FBC player goes for a kick.  He did not get a goal and the match ended with Milan the 2-0 winners. 

We must admit that we are Americans who do not know a lot about futbol (or soccer as we called it growing up).  However, we were taught a lot about the game by our British friends from the town where Land Rovers are made.  While they may not look like the German fans above, these men are huge fans of futbol.  They were so excited to be in such a large stadium for such a big game.  

Besides having a great reputation for big festivals and competitive futbol, Barcelona will always be known for its modernism style of architecture.
