The Picturesque Setting of Reine:
The Lofoten Islands seems to be nothing but a string of villages, of which we only had the chance to see a few. Reine was one of them, and enjoyed a magnificent setting at the foot of jagged peaks and with an oddly shaped harbor.
While waiting for a boat trip trough the Reinefjord. we passed the time by buying some food at a grocery store and enjoying a harbor side lunch, together with a game of chess, Here, Rich poses on the dock with the sod covered roofs of rorbu at his back.
While Rich is away from the table taking this photo, Kelly, in a desperate attempt to gain an advantage, is moving some of the chess pieces hoping Rich will not notice.
We traveled the Reinefjord by boat, having a great time of course. Kelly is here with Erez and Ennio. While the Reinefjord is not known as the most spectacular fjord in Norway, it was plenty spectacular for us.
The icy blue waters and the towering peaks of the fjords are something we never tire of looking at, particularly on a bright, sunny day. If you look closely, the little white specks at the very back of the photo (at the base of the peaks where the water ends) are the few houses of the small village we were headed towards.
Beautiful, and often oddly shaped, peaks, and waterfalls a plenty, are trademarks of the fjord experience.
Our last day in Norway we headed back to the mainland. Here we are in Narvik, which is even further north than the Lofotens. Narvik maintains snow on many of her surrounding mountains throughout the year.
