Cameron Highlands is best known for its tea plantations. The majestic hills and terraces lined with tea are so breathtaking, it will make you want to start drinking tea, no matter what your preferences may be.
We caught a ride with Kim, the owner of the Grass hopper restaurant, to the Boh Sungai Palas Tea Estate. It was great to see the plantations with a local guy, because he stopped along the way and even asked the workers if we could help a little with the collection of the tea leaves.
Here is a worker in the fields picking the tea leaves with a combination scissors-shovel tool. When you look at the size of these tea plantations, you are amazed to think that much of the cultivation is still done all by hand.
After he collects some tea leaves in his shovel, the tea picker tosses the leaves into the basket that is strapped on his back.
Kelly lends the man a hand. Picking tea is a lot more difficult than it looks. It's no tea party!
Rich climbs up into the tea terraces.
After we were finished playing in the tea plantation, we stopped by the factory to see how the leaves were made into tea for drinking. It is a fascinating process. We finished the trip off with some tea for 2. Rich had some fresh iced-tea and Kelly had a pot of hot lychee fruit tea.
